Central and Eastern Europe’s premiere legal publication, CEE Legal Matters, has recently announced the winners of 2020 CEE Deals of the Year. RTPR wins the 2020 Deal of the Year for Romania for its work on Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets’ acquisition of CEZ Group in Romania. This is the largest M&A deal in Romania in the last 12 years and it is considered to be the 4th largest deal ever concluded in Romania.
RTPR team was coordinated by Managing Partner Costin Taracila and involved several workstreams led by: Senior Associate Bogdan Cordos (general coordination and due diligence), Counsel Victor Rusu (Corporate), Counsel Cosmin Tilea (Financing), Counsel Roxana Ionescu (Competition). This is the fourth edition of the awards granted by CEE Legal Matters and it celebrates the most important deals that were signed in 2020 in 22 jurisdictions in the region. The jury was made of prominent lawyers across CEE and the selection involved a two-step analysis process. Finalists were announced in March, following the selection made by a panel of legal experts in each country, while winners for each jurisdiction being elected by a second group of experts with widely recognised regional expertise and experience. RTPR was shortlisted with 2 deals, out of the 4 selected for Romania, namely the winning MIRA’s acquisition of CEZ Group in Romania and Aegon’s sale of its operations in Romania to Vienna Insurance Group, as part of a regional deal which included Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Turkey.
